Holidays on the Plaza opens Monday
The trees are up along the Tinsel Trail and the ice skating rink is in place for the grand opening of Holidays on the Plaza, opening at Government Plaza in downtown Tuscaloosa Nov. 21.
The event features outdoor ice skating, the Tinsel Trail, private parties, other holiday festivities and visits from Santa Claus himself.
“Last year we moved our outdoor ice skating rink and the Tinsel Trail to Government Plaza, and enthusiasm for the new location translated into a 68% increase in skaters,” Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox said. “We are excited for the return of Holidays on the Plaza this month, and can’t wait to see how it continues to be a favorite holiday tradition for Tuscaloosa families and visitors.”
Admission to Holidays on the Plaza is free, but guests must purchase skate passes to access the ice rink. A daily pass is $15, and season-long passes can be purchased for $85. Get tickets right here.
The Tinsel Trail benefits Tuscaloosa’s One Place, and TOP Director of Communications Ashley Hester said this fundraiser helps serve families in West Alabama.
“Tuscaloosa’s One Place is a family resource center and Tinsel Trail is our biggest fundraiser. It helps to plug in gaps as most nonprofits need this time of year. There are a lot of things we would want to do that would help supplement the programs that may not be allocated in the budget,” Hester said.
Holidays on the Plaza’s grand opening is Monday, Nov. 21 at 5:30 p.m.
The winners of the Tinsel Trail tree award will be announced Monday.
And come out and join WVUA 23 on Tuesday, Dec. 8, for the Ugly Sweater Contest.
Holidays on the Plaza runs through Jan. 16.
