Holidays On The Plaza

Tuscaloosa’s seasonal winter wonderland is moving locations this year, but everything’s on track for Holidays on the Plaza‘s Nov. 22 grand opening.

Now located at Government Plaza in downtown Tuscaloosa, the outdoor ice rink will be open through Jan. 17.

The Tinsel Trail benefiting Tuscaloosa’s One Place will also be located at Government Plaza, offering anyone a chance to wander by and check out the nearly 200 decorated trees.

University of Alabama freshman Claudia Veliz said the change in location means it’s easier for students to get out and enjoy the ice rink.

“I’m actually really excited because as a student it’s a lot closer to campus, so I think a lot more people will be able to go,” said Veliz.

Plenty of Christmas decorations are lining up around the plaza, and Christmas lights are going up on the trees.

Tuscaloosa community member Kiki Brown said the decorations are a must-see.

“The decorations this year are amazing so a lot of families should come out, bring their kids, their families and just enjoy it,” said Brown.

Holidays on the Plaza is free and open to everyone, but guests must purchase passes to ice skate.

A Daily Skate Pass is $15 and includes skate rentals and a day’s admission to the rink. Season passes can be purchased for $85.

Guests can also rent out the ice rink for parties and other events by reservation.
