Holiday Shopping

During the Christmas season, there’s an increase in the number of people that are shopping at the malls and grocery stores. Along with more shoppers, there also could be an increase in thieves looking for an opportunity to steal.

The Tuscaloosa Police Department is urging shoppers to be aware of their surroundings at all times.

“Make sure that as you are leaving the store that you are aware of everything that is going on around you. Usually, there is a telltale sign when someone is going to do something that they should not,” Lieutenant Teena Richardson said.

Shoppers believe it is important to keep a close eye on your belongings while shopping.

“In the dressing room make sure that you do not leave your purse or other bags unattended because when you are coming in and out, changing and showing people your outfits, someone can run in and grab something from you,” Chloe Parker, a store shopper, said.

You should also avoid leaving items visible inside your car.

“Please do not put your bags in the car and leave them in plain view because there are people out watching. Lock them in the trunk or put something over them,” Richardson said.

She also urges shoppers to take a friend with them while shopping.
