HODO HAVEN APARTMENT FIRE DESTROYS 4 UNITS
An early morning fire at Hodo Haven Apartments on 33rd Street East left four families without a home. The fire happened around 2 a.m. Sunday morning and destroyed four units.
Tuscaloosa Fire Marshal Gene Holcomb said the fire originated in the kitchen and then worked its way up to the second floor of a unit where it continued to spread.
Holcomb said one child was airlifted to UAB Hospital and is in stable condition.
The American Red Cross said its helped 10 residents so far and has plans to help the family of the child injured in the fire.
“I’m just glad that my family and my neighbors made it out in time and everybody was all right, said resident Damarcus Anderson. “Because material things, those can always be replaced.”
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
