Hillcrest football looks to build off 2021 success

Last season the Hillcrest Patriots football team fell just one win short of reaching the Class 6A State Championship.

The Nucleus of that 2021 team returns, including Southern Miss commit quarterback Ethan Crawford, safety Collin Dunn, and offensive linemen Jayden Hobson.

Hillcrest head coach Jamie Mitchell is challenging his team to build off last year and not live off it.

“This football team hasn’t earned anything,” said Mitchell. “This is a much more talented football team than we had a year ago, but that doesn’t get you anywhere.”

The Patriots open the season against Pike Road, a team that finished 15-0 last year and won state in Class 5A. The national football powerhouse Armwood, high school from Seffner, Florida.

Football Friday is back next Friday at 10:30 p.m.
