Health Matters: Minimally Invasive Gynecological Surgery

Health Matters

Back in the day, when you had surgery it was a major affair. But in many cases, large incisions and lengthy hospital stays are things of the past.

Dr. Sachin Shenoy is an OBGYN at University Medical Center who specializes in minimally invasive gynecological surgeries.

“Technology has gotten so good that now what we’re able to do is take a small little camera about the size of a pen, then place it in the abdomen,” Shenoy said. “Then we make a small, 1 centimeter incision and can introduce the instruments and do all sorts or surgeries.”

In Shenoy’s case, that means getting a hysterectomy or excising an ovarian cyst is no longer a major surgery with major complication potential.
