HEALTH MATTERS, FEB. 19, 2020: WHAT IS A HOSPITALIST?

Health Matters

You may not be familiar with hospitalists, but these medical professionals help ensure your health is top priority as you or a loved one transitions from a primary care doctor into a hospital setting.

Dr. Robert Shepard from the University of Alabama College of Community Health Sciences said a hospitalist is a physician who’s dedicated to taking care of patients who are in a hospital.

“In other words they don’t tend to have an office practice,” Shepard said.

When he first meets a patient in the hospital, Shepard said he goes into the room, sits down and lets the patient and their loved ones know he’s there to listen.
