HALE COUNTY MAN FIGHTING FOR HIS LIFE AFTER ASSAULT OVER WEEKEND

A Hale County man remains in critical condition after a reported assault at The Club at Lakeview over the weekend.

We learned that the victim of this assault is 36-year-old Jacob Peak of Moundville.

Peak’s family told WVUA 23 Reporter Chelsea Barton he is a husband and father of three who is still in the intensive care unit fighting for his life.

Investigators arrested 45-year-old Travie Lee Nail and charged him with Assault II.

Detectives working the case do not believe any weapons were used during the incident, but do know alcohol was involved.

They reported the victim and suspect had words before things turned physical.

Peak’s sister Becky Hammet said she witnessed the altercation. She also said the suspect was part of a motorcycle group, which Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit Commander Lt. Jack Kennedy did confirm was at the country club.

“There was some type of motorcycle group or club present. I don’t know right now if that had a direct relation to this incident. I believe there was some talk about that and a verbal argument, but that doesn’t excuse or explain why someone would assault someone,” Kennedy said.

Family of Peak told WVUA 23 he suffered extreme trauma to his head and his jaw is completely broken.
