Storm Shelter

A new storm shelter is coming to the Hagler community in Tuscaloosa County.

It’s the first storm safe zone in Tuscaloosa County’s District 3, and will be located at the Hagler Volunteer Fire Department off Highway 82.

The $49,000 safe room holds as many as 50 people, but there will be room to expand.

District 3 County Commissioner Mark Nelson said the shelter is a big benefit to the community.

“Our district has no storm shelter, so we’re excited to get the first one approved and the money approved and start construction,” he said.

Construction will take six to eight weeks. The shelter will be ready for use before the spring storm season.
