Habitat for Humanity Dedicates First Home Since COVID Struck

Habitat Dedication

Habitat for Humanity Tuscaloosa dedicated its first house since the beginning of the pandemic on Friday.

This is the 84th house built since the April 27, 2011, tornado and the 131st home since the organization was founded in 1987.

The new home is going to lifelong Tuscaloosa County resident Brenda Montgomery, who has worked in the medical field for more than 35 years before she retired several years ago.

Montgomery completed her 250 hours of sweat equity before the pandemic got started, meaning she’s volunteered to work on her home and other Habitat homes.

Montgomery said she’s looking forward to planting flowers and other plants, spending time on the porch and getting to know her neighbors with her mother, who will live with her.
