On April 27, 2011, Vickie Edwards hunkered down in her Rosedale home along with her daughter and two granddaughters.

Two of them survived, two of them did not. Eight years removed from that day, the Edwards family is embarking on a new chapter in their lives.

“We love you and we thank you, we really do,” Edwards said.

On Friday, Edwards celebrated her new home and a new beginning for her family.

“This is the day that not only will bring happiness to me and my family, but it also brings happiness to each and every one of those that have taken a part in this and have shared the tears that I have shared,” Edwards said.

Volunteers from the Habitat for Humanity came from all over the world to help with the cause. For Samuel Edwards, this is proof that generous people are by their side.

“They was there when we needed a helping hand,” Edwards said. “Everybody was there, everybody just showed up, everybody just appeared and we all just worked together.”
