Grandmother arrested, charged with manslaughter in infant’s death
A woman is facing manslaughter charges after a 6-month-old infant arrived to DCH Regional Medical Center dead on Friday.
Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit investigators said the infant was found by its grandmother, 46-year-old Charlotte Simpson, who was keeping the child and reported finding the child in bed not breathing.
On Monday, the medical examiner’s office announced the child’s death was indicative of abuse and deemed the death a homicide.
Investigators determined Simpson was alone with the child at the time of the injury that caused the infant’s death.
Simpson is charged with one count of manslaughter and was booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail on a $30,000 bond.
