Grammy-winning singer performs in Tuscaloosa for Realizing the Dream week

Grammy award-winning gospel singer Kierra Sheard graced the stage in Tuscaloosa over the weekend as part of the city’s Realizing the Dream events series celebrating and honoring the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.

The Jan. 16 concert was held at the University of Alabama’s Moody Music Building Concert Hall.

The Realizing the Dream planning committee brought together representatives from Shelton State Community College, Stillman College, the University of Alabama and the Tuscaloosa chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.

Planning committee member Jesse Wheeler said getting such a great artist for the festivities was a must.

“In the 32 or 33 years that Realizing the Dream has been happening, the people who have come to give the concerts, they’re astounding,” Wheeler said. “I think people will enjoy themselves when they’re here. If they don’t know the artist, they’ll be sure to remember her name.”
