GOVERNOR BENTLEY WANTS TO ARM NATIONAL GUARDSMEN
In the wake of last week’s shooting at a Chattanooga Marine Corps Recruitment Center, Alabama Governor Robert Bentley is attempting to arm Alabama National Guardsmen for the first time in 23 years.
A 1992 Department of Defense Directive places heavy restrictions on DOD employees, like service men and women, when it comes to carrying firearms. It prevents them from carrying guns unless they are serving an explicit security purpose.
The Governor, along with leaders of six other states, is asking for a way to allow Alabama National Guardsmen to carry weapons.
Today, WVUA 23’s Jack Royer spoke to several Tuscaloosa Gun advocates who agree with Governor Bentley’s stance.
