gov kay ivey signs abortion bill

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey had a lot of signing to do Thursday morning in Montgomery. She added her signature to eight pieces of legislation.

Ivey signed legislation that allows the governor to appoint the Director of the Pardons and Paroles Board and sets new guidelines on when some inmates can be paroled.

For example, the new law will keep violent criminals behind bars until they serve 85% of their sentence or 15 years, whichever is less. The law takes effect in September.

Ivey was also expected to sign into law other bills such including “H-B 540”- the Alabama Incentive Modernization Act provides tax incentive and tax credits for the attraction of new and expanding business in the state, as well as “S-B 254”- which requires seat belt use for each occupant of a moving vehicle.
