On Wednesday, Oct. 2, Gov. Kay Ivey released an extra, conditional state appropriation that will be matched with federal dollars for a total of $78 million in payments to state hospitals that treat Medicaid beneficiaries.
The combined $78 million will be available in the 2020 fiscal year, which started Tuesday. It will offer relief for hospitals facing financial strains, including rural hospitals like Pickens County Medical Center in Carrolton.
“We are very excited about the opportunity to receive additional funding to help our hospital,” board chairman Shawn Mcdaniel said. “We have dealt in tremendous financial stress over time, but this is very exciting to us and very exciting to the people here to help us continue to be able to provide quality healthcare for the citizens of Pickens County.”
Pickens County Medical Center will be getting $210,759 from the allocation.
