Girl Scouts

For those who may be interested in joining the Girl Scouts, this is the time to do it: they are looking for new members.

Girl Scouts programs focus on science and math, the outdoors, entrepreneurship and life skills. Girls of all ages, kindergarten through 12th grade, can join and no one ever gets turned away. And, there will be more opportunities for those empty spots on every sash. The Girl Scouts added 42 new badges this year for subjects like space science and cybersecurity.

Communications manager Allie Hulcher said she wants people to know there’s more to the Girls Scouts than people might think.

“Girl Scouts is so much more than selling cookies,” she said. “We’re very proud of our cookies, people know us for our cookies. But we are so much more than that. Girl Scouts is a yearlong opportunity for girls to get in the outdoors, to become leaders, to learn about STEM and to grow as women.”

Interested readers can go to or visit their office on 9th Street downtown.
