GENERAL, EDUCATION FUND BUDGETS ARE LARGEST IN STATE HISTORY

Legislative Session

Alabama’s 2020 Legislative Session started back up again Monday.

The Senate has already passed a $1.25 billion bond issue for the education fund.

Alabama Sen. Bobby Singleton said they’re mainly working on the $2.3 billion General Fund budget and the $7.4 billion education budget. Both budgets are the largest in the state’s history.

“Everything is predicated on all events that happened in the last six to eight weeks,” said State Sen. Gerald Allen of Tuscaloosa. “We are very cautious. We’re moving very slowly to make sure that we have the funds that will cover the budget without going into proration.”

The Senate could approve the General Fund budget as soon as next week.
