FOUR ALABAMA SOCCER PLAYERS EARN SEC HONORS
After a much improved season from a year ago, Alabama soccer for the first time in program history had four players selected for All-Conference honors.
Freshmen Reyna Reyes and Carlee Giammona, along with juniors Brynn Martin and Casey Wertz, earned the honors. Reyes was named to the first team, Wertz and Martin were named to the second team and Giammona and Reyes were named a part of the all-freshman team.
Reyes earned first team and all-freshman All-SEC honors being a standout player throughout her freshman season. She has started in 16 games, recording 1404 minutes of playing time. She tallied three goals and one assist on the year.
Wertz earned second team All-SEC honors following her strong offensive performance as a forward during the regular season. She has been the team’s leading scorer the last two seasons, recording five goals with seven assists.
Martin also earned a spot on the second team. A key contributor to Alabama’s defense, she has started all 18 games this season, playing 1614 minutes total. Martin tallied three goals and one assist.
Giammona earned All-Freshman team honors. An active offensive player, she leads the team in shots on goal. She tallied three goals, two assists and played 1266 minutes. Giammona is tenth in the SEC in shots and at ninth in shots per game, averaging 2.78. This is the first time since 2012 that Alabama has two rookie athletes on the All-Freshman team.
