FORMER TUSCALOOSA COUNTY SHERIFF WEIGHS IN ON ORLANDO SHOOTING
Former Tuscaloosa County Sheriff Tex Sexton knows about terrorism in the U.S.
Sexton left the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office in 2013 for Los Angeles, where he worked as Homeland Security division director for several years. Several recent terrorist attacks featured a similar story, he said. The individuals responsible for the shootings including the Boston Marathon bombing and the San Berardino shooting were looked into by the FBI, but their investigations were determined inconclusive.
He said he wants to raise a question many Americans are asking policy makers and Congress: What do we need to do differently to prevent attacks?
“Should we continue to look at terrorism as a criminal matter, or is it time to look at it as a national security matter?” he said. “Even declaring war on ISIS, which brings about the national security laws of the country and broadens that ability to reach out and investigate (anyone) sympathizing or supporting ISIS.”
