FORMER TIDE COACH AVERY JOHNSON INTERVIEWING WITH SIXERS

With the departure of Monty Williams to be head coach of the Phoenix Suns, 76ers coach Brett Brown may be turning to a name that’s familiar to Alabama fans to fill out the vacant assistant coach position.

Avery Johnson is reportedly interviewing for a job on the Sixers’ coaching staff.

Johnson was the Crimson Tide’s head coach for the last four seasons before being let go earlier this year after finishing a disappointing 18-16 campaign. Johnson compiled an overall record of 75-62 during his tenure and made one NCAA Tournament appearance.

The former NBA point guard spent time as the head coach of the Brooklyn Nets and Dallas Mavericks before coaching at Alabama. Johnson had back-to-back 60-win season with the Mavericks and reached the NBA finals in 2006.
