FORMER PROBATE JUDGE FILLING IN AS NORTHPORT CITY ADMINISTRATOR

Hardy Mccollum

A former Tuscaloosa County probate judge is stepping up and filling in as Northport city administrator until a new one is hired.

Hardy McCollum served as Tuscaloosa County’s probate judge for 42 years but retired in January. Although he’s only serving as city administrator for two to four months while Northport searches for a full-time replacement, McCollum said he’s happy to step in and help.

“I’m optimistic,” he said. “I prayed over it, thought over it, discussed it and everything and finally came to the conclusion that this would probably be a good thing to do on a temporary basis.”

Former Northport City Administrator Bruce Higgenbotham resigned from the position so he could start his own engineering firm in Northport.
