FORMER PICKENS COUNTY SHERIFF PLEADS GUILTY TO FRAUD CHARGES
The former sheriff of Picken County for over 30 years, David Eugene Abston pleaded guilty to two fraud-related charges in federal court in Birmingham Tuesday morning.
Abston was indicted for buying food from the West Alabama Food Bank under false pretenses and used that food to feed jail inmates while keeping the money that was leftover.
Abston faces as much as 20 years in prison. His sentencing is scheduled for November.
