Former Crimson Tide football player charged with sexual assault
A former University of Alabama football player is facing sexual assault charges in Tuscaloosa.
Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit Capt. Jack Kennedy said 23-year-old Joshua Lanier he was arrested Thursday and charged with first-degree sexual abuse and sodomy.
Lanier graduated from Tuscaloosa Academy, and played seven games as a part of special teams for the University of Alabama before entering the transfer portal and committing to Jackson State University.
Investigators said further details will not be released to protect the victim.
