Focus 50+ looking at Northport expansion

Older adults living in Northport may soon have another place where they can gather and stay active.

Focus 50+ Executive Director Nicole Harshman said the organization is in the first stages of making a Northport expansion a reality.

But to do that, they need to know if residents are interested. That’s why they’re hosting a meeting Sept. 20 at the Northport Civic Center.

“It is an interest meeting to see if there is an interest in Northport to move forward with the program,” Harshman said. “If there is, we start asking folks who are interested to give us signatures. We need about 50 to 75 signatures to get the job going.”

Focus 50+’s main location is inside the McAbee Activity Center in Tuscaloosa, where it provides activities for older adults along with transportation assistance and lunches.

If the plan gets the green light, it will be the first center of its kind in Northport since around 2005.

If you’re interested in learning more, the meeting is happening Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 10 a.m. at the Northport Civic Center.
