FIREFIGHTERS SPEND AFTERNOON, EVENING BATTLING MOODY MUSIC BUILDING BLAZE

Tuscaloosa Fire Rescue is still fighting a blaze in Moody Music Building on the University of Alabama campus as of 8 p.m. Sunday.

Fire crews arrived on the scene at 4:15 p.m. after receiving a call saying smoke was coming from the roof of the building.

Fire Rescue said the fire is contained to the roof, and crews are working on ensuring the building’s contents are safe.

The area that caught fire houses Million Dollar Band equipment and instruments, among other items.

WVUA 23 News Chief Meteorologist Richard Scott said there was heavy lightning around campus at 3:50 p.m. While the cause of the blaze has not yet been determined, lightning is widely suspected.
