FIRE CHIEF: THERMAL IMAGING WAS INTEGRAL TO FIGHTING BLAZE AT MOODY MUSIC BUILDING
Repairs are being made to the University of Alabama’s Moody Music Building after a fire last month.
The blaze that damaged the building’s roof happened April 19 during a storm. Lightning is believed to have been the cause.
Tuscaloosa Fire Rescue battled the blaze throughout the night, finally putting it out the next morning.
Fire Chief Randy Smith said thermal imaging helped in the battle against the blaze.
“Without the thermal imaging on that drone, we wouldn’t have known where we needed to start trying to attack the roof or where we needed to start taking the roof apart,” Smith said.
Firefighters saved most of the Million Dollar Band’s uniforms, instruments and equipment being stored in the part of the building most affected by the blaze.
