Feeling pressure at the pump? That’s not going away anytime soon

While the winter travel season is past and summer is all too far away, gas prices remain on an upward trend.

AAA Alabama’s Clay Ingram said you can combat pressure at the pump by comparing prices instead of filling up at the most convenient place.

“Price shopping is always a good idea for a couple of reasons, it’s sort of a win-win type situation,” said Ingram. “Because you’re saving money today on your tank full of gas and it may be $3, $4, $5, depending on where you’re buying compared to where you might normally buy.”

In addition, price shopping creates competition in the marketplace, Ingram said, and it puts pressure on businesses to lower their prices.

But prices won’t come for at least a few more months, economists predict.

“We could see it come back down a little bit in a couple of months,” Ingram said. “I don’t think we are going to see anything really wild and crazy with our prices. I don’t think the demand will justify that kind of an increase. I think the most likely scenario is for prices to be a little bit higher than they are right now during the summer travel season.”

AAA has a mobile app that offers a fuel price finder. If you’re interested, you can learn more here.
