FATE OF SPRINGBROOK REZONING DECISION LAYS IN JUDGE’S HANDS

Springbrook

A hearing in Judge James Roberts’ courtroom Monday afternoon may bring Springbrook back to its residential status.

Over three dozen Springbrook residents made their way to the hearing, where Roberts heard arguments from attorneys on both sides. He plans to make a decision on the matter to become fully residential at a later date.

“You’ve got to go back and un-zone it and rezone it back to residents because right now it’s zoned commercial, even though it’s sitting there with nobody on it,” Byron Bart Slawson, a business, property and environment lawyer, said. “For a year it’s been zoned that way and they haven’t been able to get anybody to build on it, haven’t been able to sell it, haven’t been able to lease it to anybody. So I don’t know how desirable it could be.”

One-fifth of the Springbrook area was zoned to be commercial back in 2017. Roberts said he will take all things into consideration and will apply the law to the facts of the case.
