Fatal wreck roundup: 3 dead in 2 major weekend crashes
Three people are dead in the wake of two major wrecks over the weekend in Tuscaloosa County.
A four-vehicle crash around 8:30 p.m. Saturday killed a 29-year-old woman from Tuscaloosa.
Jasmine Simone Turner-Clark died after her car struck a truck driven by a man from Bessemer. Two other vehicles were also involved in the crash, which happened on Interstate 59 near the 89-mile marker, about 11 miles north of Tuscaloosa city limits.
A two-vehicle crash Friday afternoon claimed the lives of a couple from Vernon.
The crash happened just before 4:30 p.m. on Alabama Highway 171 near the 8-mile marker, about 8 miles north of Northport.
Frank Stanley Wharton, 87, and 84-year-old Mildred Wharton were killed when their vehicle was struck by a tractor-trailer driven by a 24-year-old man from Fayette.
The Whartons were pronounced dead at the scene.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Highway Patrol Division is investigating the cause of both crashes.
