FAMILY MOURNS THE LOSS OF LOVED ONE SHOT IN ROAD RAGE INCIDENT

Zakia Bibbs

Zakia Bibbs was one of several people traveling in a car eastbound on Interstate 20/59 late on July 5 when the vehicle was shot into from a car near mile marker 96. Zakia was struck and killed and two others inside the vehicle were injured in the road rage incident.

While the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit is still working to solve the case, Bibbs’ family is still coming to terms with their loss. Bibbs, a mother, celebrated her 25th birthday on Wednesday and just days later her family is searching for help with her funeral costs.

“We estimate, we are going to talk to the funeral home tomorrow and we are estimating at least $7,000-8,000,” Bibbs’ older sister Sherevia Thomas said. “Anything $10, $20 it doesn’t matter. We are not being picky we just, it’s just hard for us right now because it was very unexpected. My sister just needs a good home for a celebration and that’s the only thing we are willing to do is just put her away nice.”

So far, no arrests have been made in the case. Those with any information on the shooting are urged to contact the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit at 205-464-8690.
