Students, family and friends gathered Monday at Hillcrest High School, celebrating the 17th birthday of student Cameron Prince, who died unexpectedly in November.

Cameron loved celebrating his birthday, so his family said they intended to make him proud.

Many of Cameron’s friends and teachers gathered at the high school around his designated parking spot, where a DJ kept the festivities going with Cameron’s favorite tunes. Attendees also released balloons in Cameron’s honor.

“Today was very important. Sad tears, but also happy tears,” said Tammy Prince, Cameron’s mother. “This is what Cameron would have wanted for his birthday. We wanted to make it really big, really special and get everybody involved and just celebrate our baby.”

Cameron’s friends said it all turned out exactly how he’d have wanted it.

“I know he would’ve partied if he were here,” said friend Jayden Stewart. “I think it’s important for us to all come together. This is what he would want us to do.”

Cameron’s parents said they’re thankful for Hillcrest’s continued support, as well everyone who’s helping keep their son’s legacy alive.
