Family changed forever after July 13 Skyland wreck

A family lost more than their minivan when a mother and her four children wound up in a wreck on Skyland Boulevard just after exiting Interstate 20-59 on July 13. Two of those children are now paralyzed, and the van was an integral part of the mother’s cleaning business.
The children’s father spoke with WVUA 23 and said their twins remain at Children’s Hospital in Birmingham, where they’ve been since the day of the accident.
One child is paralyzed from the neck down, and the other is paralyzed from the waist down.
The twins’ brother was released from the hospital on Sunday, and their fourth child was not seriously injured in the crash.
The children’s mother, Kara Martin, suffered less serious injuries and has been released from DCH Regional Medical Center.
According to a GoFundMe listing set up by Martin’s family, she lost her van and cleaning supplies used in her business in the crash.
