Fallen officer’s scholarship fund raising money via challenge coins

Dornell Cousette

Saturday marked four years since Tuscaloosa Police Investigator Dornell Cousette was shot and killed in the line of duty.

Shortly after his death, Cousette’s fiancee Celita McCaskill, TPD Sgt. Michael Chaisson and Sgt. David Jones decided to ensure his name would live on and inspire others through the Dornell Cousette Scholarship fund.

The scholarship is awarded to students from Tuscaloosa or Pickens counties.

If you’re interested in donating toward the scholarship, there’s a little something extra in it for you at the moment.

Coins for Cousette is happening through Friday, Sept. 22, and a $20 donation gets you a custom challenge coin.

“This is going to be impacting kids who are seniors in high school trying to help them further their dreams,” said Chaisson. “That is something that he was 1,000% behind and something that I believe he would be wholeheartedly in agreement of.”
