Eutaw Police Department hosts community event to promote unity

EUTAW – The Eutaw Police Department and other local law enforcement agencies teamed up Thursday and offered a fun-filled evening featuring food and family-friendly activities.

The annual Eutaw PD Night Out, at the RH Young Community Center in Eutaw, is one of the many ways they’re bridging the gap between residents and law enforcement, said Eutaw Police Chief Tommy Johnson.

“This is something to give back to the community to let them know we are here for them and not just here putting people in jail and writing tickets,” Johnson said. “Our goal is to give back and let them know we are here for them.”

The event featured local vendors, emergency services from Greene County municipalities and health care professionals offering COVID-19 vaccines and flu shots.

Boligee City Council Member James Morrow was at the event and said he’s always delighted to acknowledge the efforts of first responders.

“It is important for the community to engage with the police officers to see that they are not all bad,” said Eutaw Mayor Latasha Johnson.
