Need a little help in your relationship? Tuscaloosa’s One Place is offering a space where couples can learn more about each other and receive problem-solving advice.

The family resource center is offering a free Elevate Your Relationship six-class course for couples 19 and older, and you can even earn money for attending.

Those who sign up will be offered six class sessions on a weekly or monthly basis from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Classes begin Oct. 26 and include dinner and childcare. Couples who complete all six sessions will receive a $25 gift card for attending.

During the course, couples will receive tools to better understand their partner.

Tuscaloosa’s One Place Relationship Coordinator Todd Hester said these classes aren’t therapy, but they do encourage healthy problem-solving skills.

“My wife was the facilitator at one time and we co-facilitated the class together, and I can tell you from our experience it improved our relationship and we had been married for 10 years at the time,” said Hester.

Sessions are taught in a group setting, offering couples in different relationship stages a chance to learn from one another.

“You’re in there with other couples with different relationship experiences,” Hester said. “All that experience really helps to play together where the young couple is introducing ideas that kind of spice up the older couples and the older couples have the wise words for that younger couple.”

After each class, participants can fill out a survey offering feedback about the sessions, and those who attend other sessions as well can earn up to $160 over a year for completing the surveys throughout

There will be surveys available for participants interested in giving their feedback about the sessions. Each person can earn up to $160, or $320 per couple, over one year for completing other impact study surveys.

Couples interested in signing up for the Elevate Your Relationship study course should call Tuscaloosa’s One Place at 205-462-1000 or email Hester at mthester@tuscaloosaoneplace.org.
