Roller Derby

The Druid City Dames hosted their roller derby recruitment night on Wednesday night from 7 – 8 p.m.

Women from Tuscaloosa and surrounding areas had the opportunity to learn the basics of skating. No skills were necessary. Skaters were able to learn what it takes to be an athlete and a roller derby skater.

Founded in 2015, the Druid City Dames has been providing women with a great way to exercise and have some fun, according to Coach Kelly Wolfe.

“We had a league in Birmingham, but we didn’t have one in Tuscaloosa and Super Skate is here so why not put your skates on and have some fun. I mean it’s a really good way of releasing some energy and getting some exercise,” Wolfe said.

Beside skating, members of their league work to uplift one another both on and off the rink. For a more detailed look inside the culture of the Dames, check out this WVUA 23 article.
