Tuscaloosa’s very own Druid City Brewing Company is merging with Huntsville’s Straight to Ale Brewing Company, it was announced on Monday.

Owners from both breweries are referring to the deal as a partnership as opposed to a purchase. Bo Hicks, the co-owner of Druid City Brewing, says that the merger will allow them to grow their production in order to get their beer into more restaurants and grocery stores around Alabama. Hicks also wants Druid City to move into a bigger taproom in Tuscaloosa to better accommodate more patrons.

“Threw it in a way that really helped us and you know it wasn’t a cash grab it was something that they saw value in us, we saw value in the infrastructure and everything they brought,” Hicks said. “It’s only going to help us do what we already do better.”

Hicks will continue to retain ownership stake of the brewery that he and Elliott Roberts started in 2012. The merger means that they, along with additional investors from both breweries, will get stock in the new company.
