DOCUMENTARY SHOWS THE IMPACT OF AN OFFICER BEING KILLED IN LINE OF DUTY

Officer Behind The Video

Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s deputies spent time Tuesday learning more about a man who is better known for the way he died than the life he lived.

Officer Kyle Dinkheller was shot and killed in the line of duty back in 1998. Since then, dashcam video of what happened has been seen by millions of people around the world. Law enforcement agencies use parts of that video to help train their officers and a former police officer made a documentary about Dinkheller. He shared his work with the sheriff’s deputies Tuesday.

“The feedback we are getting is that people are finally getting the story of who Kyle Dinkheller was as a person,” Patrick Shaver, a filmmaker and former police officer, said. “Everyone in law enforcement has seen that video, and everyone has used it as a training tool, but the feedback we are getting is that we finally did justice to his memory.”

Shaver said that the big takeaway from his film is the impact the loss of an officer has on a police department, their family and the community.
