Residents of District 5 held their annual litter pickup day Saturday morning, taking advantage of beautiful weather to help beautify the streets of Tuscaloosa.

“We’ve got a lot of active members out here, whether you’re working off community service hours or you just live in District 5 and you’re tired of the roadside litter, I get it, it’s my district too,” said participant Ashley Chambers. “So coming out here even if you go back to your neighborhood to clean up the more people to participate the cleaner our town will be.”

A group of volunteers set out to combat the issue by rolling up their sleeves to tidy up their community. While many of the volunteers had participated in the event before, several were new to the litter cleanup.

More than 75 bags of garbage were collected between 8 and 11 a.m. Along with the 57 volunteers, District 5 Tuscaloosa City Councilman Kip Tyner and Judge Lisenby helped in the cleanup.
