A display located in Northport City Hall has been set up by Mayor Bobby Herndon to honor the 13 fallen service members who died in August outside the airport in Kabul during their exit from Afghanistan.

Herndon included the pictures of all 13 Americans who died that day. These members died when a suicide bomber detonated a bomb as the service members were trying to help Americans get inside the airport and out of the country.

“I’ve got note cards here on the table if you want to come by and write a note,” said Herndon. “I’ll have a box that you can drop the notes in and nobody will see them. If there’s a specific person you want to address it to, we’ll look at it and get it to them. Just get the word out that I’m part of this, you’re part of this and God bless America.”

The display will be up through the end of this week, and pictures and hand-carved wood plaques will be sent to the families.
