With July 4th just days away, it is important to remember the proper precautions that need to be taken when cooking with meat.

“With chicken, you want to make sure it’s cleaned very well,” UA dietitian Sheena Gregg said. “You can rinse it, pat it dry with a paper towel before cooking it and even using a marinade for your meats can be helpful during the grilling process. Researchers indicate that, that reduces the amount of carcinogens that are associated with grilling meats.”

It is also key to remember that meat should not be left out in the sun.

Leftovers should always be stored in the fridge and should be reheated properly so that bacteria doesn’t grow.
