A young man suffering from a life-threatening disorder got his wish granted by Tuscaloosa heavyweight boxer Deontay Wilder over the weekend.

Adrian Graham was born with a life-threatening immune system disorder. Adrian, who likes being called “Shug” by friends and family, loves boxing, so, Make-A-Wish Alabama teamed up with WBC World Heavyweight Champion and Tuscaloosa native Deontay Wilder to help make his wish come true.

Adrian’s childhood was filled with doctors visits, but on Saturday there were no doctors’ visits or school.

“I wanted to take his mind of off what was going on in his life personally and give him a little joy,” Wilder said.

“This is the greatest feeling you can ever imagine, said Adiran’s mom, Daphyne Graham. “Just to see a smile on his face, and he’s not going through anything and forgetting about his problems.”

Wilder said he, too, has experience with health issues, because his daughter was born with spina bifida.

“My daughter, she’s a fighter as well,” Wilder said. “So I understand the struggle that’s going on with Shug. Maybe it’s a different situation, but a fighter is a fighter and these kids are so strong nowadays.”
