DECATUR MAN SENTENCED TO 400 YEARS FOR COLD CASE RAPE AND BURGLARY CONVICTIONS
DECATUR, Ala. (AP) – A man has been sentenced to nearly 400 years in prison after being found guilty in cold cases dating back about 30 years.
Multiple news outlets report officials announced the sentences for 46-year-old David Leon Garth on Tuesday.
In August, Garth was convicted of three counts of first-degree rape and three counts of first-degree burglary for crimes that occurred in 1985 and 1986 in Decatur.
Garth received 99 years for each of the rape convictions and 30 years for each of the burglary convictions. Those sentences will be served concurrently following the 99-year sentence Garth is now serving for a burglary conviction.
New DNA technology tied Garth to the rape cases. He was indicted in 2012.
