DCH HOSPITALS CLOSED TO NEW PATIENTS IN WAKE OF ATTACK ON COMPUTERS

Dch Emergency Room 2

DCH Health System today announced it is currently closed to new patients after experiencing a ransomware attack.

According to the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, ransomware is malicious software designed to deny access to a computer system or data until a ransom is paid. These attacks typically spread through phishing emails or by unknowingly visiting an infected website.

DCH Regional Medical Center, Northport Medical Center and Fayette Medical Center will be closed new patients unless their care is critical, according to a statement from DCH Health System.

The amount the ransomers are seeking is unknown, the statement said.

Hospital staff are caring for patients who are currently in the hospital, and there are no plans to transfer current patients, the statement said.

Anyone scheduled for an outpatient procedure or test should call before coming to a DCH Health System hospital, and local ambulances are taking patients to other hospitals unless their situation is dire. Patients in the emergency department may be transferred to other hospitals when they are stabilized.
