DALTON SELECTED UA EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT AND PROVOST
Dr. James T. Dalton has been selected as the next executive vice president and provost of The University of Alabama. He will join the UA campus Aug. 1, once approved by the UA System Board of Trustees.
Dalton currently serves as dean and professor in the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy. He will replace Dr. Kevin Whitaker, who was the executive vice president and provost at UA since January 2017.
“Dr. Dalton brings tremendous depth of knowledge and qualifications to this role,” UA President Stuart Bell said. “He garnered support from many because of his experience at leading public research universities, his stellar academic credentials and his entrepreneurial expertise.”
Dalton has made many contributions to the pharmaceutical industry, with his name on over 400 awarded and pending patents. He is also co-author on over 300 original abstracts and peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts.
“His passion for teaching and student success align with our University’s values,” Bell said. “He was selected from an impressively strong pool of candidates, and we are honored to have him join The University of Alabama leadership team.”
During his time as dean at the University of Michigan, Dalton also led in developing the college’s first diversity, equity and inclusion plan.
“I’m thrilled to join The University of Alabama and look forward to working with President Bell and the leadership team, faculty, staff, students and alumni,” Dalton said.
