The Crimson Tide men’s and women’s track and field teams are heading to the NCAA Indoor Championships, which will be held March 8 and 9 at the Birmingham CrossPlex.

“Well it’s really an honor and a privilege to be able to compete on the National stage and make it to Nationals,”  said Alabama junior high jumper, Shelby McEwen. “Me and my teammates going to Birmingham, it’s like a home- turf advantage. We’re just going to compete hard, try to get some big wins, and score some big points.”

Members and coaches of each team are excited that the Championship is being held so close to home.

“It’s kind of great having the NCAA’s right in your backyard,” said Alabama Jumps Coach Miguel Pate. “It’s something that doesn’t happen here a ton. I hope it helps us get some exposure around the state of Alabama, get some people to come out and see some great track and field, but super excited to have a lot of athletes going to NCAA’s.”

If you can’t make it to the event but would still like to watch, ESPN3 will live stream the event March 8 at 5:30 p.m. and March 9 at 4 p.m.
