Earlier this week, Alabama State Troopers were investigating a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 20/59 near Knoxville exit 52 in the southbound lanes.

The crash backed up traffic for miles. It involved a total of four vehicles, two of which were 18-wheelers.

One cattle hauler was carrying approximately 66 cows. Eight cows were killed in the crash. Cows could be seen walking on the interstate.

Several cattlemen with their horses were brought in to round up those cows.

Traffic reopened around 8 p.m. on Monday night.

“We had a lot of people helping us in our rural community,” Greene County Chief Deputy Hank McWhorter said.  “We are not financed properly, so we have to do the best we can from calling in help in other counties.”

The remaining livestock was taken to a veterinary clinic to be checked out to make they were okay.
