COVID-19 vaccines required for DCH employees

Vaccine Mandate

DCH Health System employees are being required to get a COVID-19 vaccine to keep their jobs.

Staff were notified of the requirement Thursday via email.

The Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services announced their mandate on Nov. 5 based on President Joe Biden’s COVID-19 Plan mandate. All employees must have a full vaccine course by Jan 4.

DCH Vice President of Marketing and Communications Andy North said he fears the mandate may fuel the worker shortage within the system.

“It is certainly a concern and that’s part of the reason why we took our time to evaluate it,” said North. “We really waited and pondered on when to do this, how to do it. But it’s a mandate at this point and it’s something that we have to do. All health systems have to do it at this point. So we’re not in this boat alone.”

North said around 72% of DCH employees are already vaccinated.
