Council approves school supplies for parking tickets measure

Throughout the month of August, you can pay any parking tickets you’ve gotten from the city of Tuscaloosa off by handing over school supplies.
The Tuscaloosa City Council approved the annual measure on Tuesday, meaning for every $10 of supplies you hand over, you’ll get $15 off your parking ticket total.
Donated supplies will go to Tuscaloosa City Schools, and Superintendent Mike Daria said it’s great getting so much help from the city.
“School supplies are very important for our students and for our teachers’ classrooms, and anything people can contribute will be very helpful,” said Daria.
Tuscaloosa City Council President Kip Tyner said the agreement is a win-win for the city.
“We’ve had this problem for many many years with people having overtime parking tickets,” Tyner said. “So this is kind of like bringing back a book you’ve had too long at the library with no charge.”
A list of acceptable school supplies and their assigned values will be released before the effort begins Aug. 1.
